Ian Holland gave us an extremely interesting talk on the activities at Brooke Farm which is owned by Nottingham County Council Social Services. This is situated in Linby, Nottinghamshire and provides employment and training for people with learning disabilities. Ian explained that everyone is supported according to their individual needs and is offered a wide range of opportunities to improve their life and social skills, as well as being trained in practical horticultural subjects. Brooke Farm also have a shop which provides training in retail skills.
It is planned that this training will lead to employment for some students.
Ian brought a selection of their produce for sale at the meeting which was much appreciated by the members. At their shop, in Linby, they also sell eggs, fruit and vegetables, as well as a range of bedding plants and flowers in season.
We were encouraged to visit the shop to support these training and employment opportunities.
